Phuket Property award

Phuket Property.

PRESTIGIOUS ASIA PACIFIC AND GLOBAL PROPERTY Award win.

The OPP (Overseas Property Professional) Awards for Excellence 2012 for the real estate industry, now in the 5th year, held their Annual Presentation Award Ceremony in the City in London last night (11/10/12).

The awards were judged by a 50 strong panel of industry leaders from around the world and celebrate the best developers, estate agents and associated companies working in the global cross border residential property industry.

But it was a homegrown, Thailand based agency that took on the rest of the world and swept the Awards in London at the agency level and in doing so proved that you do not have to the biggest to be amongst the best.

Phuket Property

Phuket Property and The PHILLIPS Group, you know them as PHILLIPS Property (www.Phillips-Property.com), took to the podium twice with top place of Gold for Best Estate Agency Asia and then Bronze for Best Global Estate Agency.
This follows on from 2011 when the company also won two spots in the Asia Pacific Property Awards in association with Bloomberg in Shanghai. The Awards then were for Real Estate Agency and Real Estate Agency Website, Thailand.

Scratch the surface and you will see that there is more to PHILLIPS Property than meets the eye. From a local agency, they have spent considerable time innovating and investing in and launching other branded services within Thailand and to the broader Asia Pacific market. They are the name that sits behind a number of potentially high-octane real estate related service innovations.

For example, they have developed the new international rentals portal, www.Rentals-Worldwide.com, where landlords can now advertise their properties for rent and deal
directly with enquiries without paying agent fees.

“We developed Rentals-Worldwide to provide property owners with the opportunity to go direct to market with their rental property and in doing so, save on agent fees. Of
course, owners can still appoint an agent together with Rentals-Worldwide. It widens the net, increases the possibility of rental revenue and improves profit as bookings
through Rentals Worldwide are commission free” says Martin Phillips, Group MD.

Hotel & Resort sales

Phillips also quietly entered the Hotel & Resort sales segment in 2011 through a new service and brand, www.AsiaHotelInvest.com, and are quickly establishing a reputation for facilitating sizeable hotel and resort deals in Thailand and the region “Valuations aside, resort and hotel deals are very much about confidentiality and trust as they are about negotiation. The market and general public doesn’t need to know what is happening until the deal is completed and we like to keep it that way, nice and quiet”, comments Phillips.

NPL/Distressed Asset

And more recently, they identified an opportunity in the NPL/Distressed Asset market in Europe and launched www.DistressedAssets.com. The company, under a cooperation
agreement, now represents a joint portfolio of over Euro 1 Billion in offmarket and real estate asset backed NPL’s in Europe. These portfolios are now starting to be marketed in Asia by the group.
“When, not if, the global crisis worsens, this channel will become a major part of our business”, states Phillips, “We just need to grow the service and establish a strong reputation in this sector. I expect it to explode in the future”.

Asked if the Distressed Asset business could potentially launch a private equity fund, allowing for general participation in the sector, Phillips, say that they have already
started to put in place a framework for investors through partners in London and that more details would be announced when the timing was closer.

Said of the award, “We have been consistently innovating and establishing the reputation of our local brand, starting with PHILLIPS Property and subsequently with our new brands and services, both in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region. The OPP Awards are a testament to our innovated approach, our strong sales & marketing success and the core values of honesty and integrity across all of our dealings”

New Ironman 70.3 World Champion

New Ironman 70.3 World Champion

to Race Laguna Phuket

Welsh Superstar Cave’s entry sets up Thrilling Title Duel

Leanda Cave

In a major coup for Ironman 70.3 Laguna Phuket, recently-crowned 2012 Ironman 70.3 World Champion Leanda Cave has joined the ranks of top professional athletes set to appear at this year’s event.

Cave signed up for Laguna Phuket less than 24 hours after completing her epic World Championship victory in Las Vegas on 9 October – and before resuming training for her next title bid at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on 13 October.

Her Laguna confirmation has set up a thrilling duel with 2011 Ironman 70.3 World Champion and defending Laguna Phuket 70.3 Champion Melissa Hauschildt of Australia – beaten into fourth place in Las Vegas by Cave – who will be eager not to lose another title to the Welsh superstar.

“To have the brand new Ironman 70.3 World Champion immediately accept our invitation to race at Laguna Phuket is a testament to the drawing power and popularity which characterises our race on the pro circuit,” said Debbie Dionysius, Assistant Vice President of Destination Marketing, Laguna Phuket.

“Attracting such top talent is an indication of the international stature we’ve achieved and we’re looking forward to a fantastic display of world-class competition.”

The Laguna Phuket 2012 competitive mix is also fuelled by Czech Olympian Radka Vodickova and Australian veteran Belinda Granger – both vying to become the first women’s Triple Champion of Laguna Phuket Triathlon (LPT), a week earlier on 25 November – and also with points to prove in the 70.3.

Cave, an ITU World Long Distance Champion, is hitting peak form in the run-up to Kona and Laguna, despite an indifferent start to the year that followed a spectacular end to her 2011 season when she recorded a third-place finish at the Ironman World Championship, a win at Ironman 70.3 Miami, runner-up finish at the ITU World Long Distance Championship in Las Vegas and her first Ironman title in Arizona.

Born in the UK, Cave emigrated as a child to Australia, before moving back to the UK with her Welsh mother. She now lives and trains in Tucson, Arizona and races for both Wales and Great Britain.

Cave is no stranger to Phuket, having raced LPT in 2006 when she was second-placed behind Canadian Samantha McGlone, who then went on to become 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Champion.

Hauschildt, currently battling back from an injury-hit season, made a determined defence of her World 70.3 title in Las Vegas, but her fourth place was more than seven minutes behind Cave’s winning time of 4:28:05.

At Laguna Phuket she’ll be aiming to hold off the challenges of Cave, Rodickova, Granger and a field of other top pros to hold onto her 2011title, which she won with a course record of 4:17:01.

In the men’s field, American Ironman Chris Lieto, with three top 10 finishes in the Ironman World Championships, will race both LPT and the 70.3, while confirmations are awaited from more big names, such as two-time 70.3 World Champion and 2011 Laguna 70.3 Champion Michael Raelert of Germany, and Australian legend Craig Alexander, 2011 Ironman World Champion and Ironman 70.3 World Champion.

Wrap of the 1st Kata Group Phuket International Cricket 7s

Wrap of the 1st Kata Group Phuket International Cricket 7s

It was another fabulous day here at the Kata Group Sports Ground in Phuket, Thailand for Day 2 of the Kata Group International Cricket 7s, the first event of ACST Phuket Cricket Week 2012.

The Vagabonds arrived for the first match of Day 2 short of players and soon recruited 3 young cricketers from around the ground: Ta, from PCDC Natives, Suburadip from the Singapore Slingers and Aiden from the CBB’S. The young recruits were not to be a good omen for the Vagabonds however as the Galahs won the match with a score of 3/42. Hersey so kindly once again contributed to the fundraising for the Phuket Junior Cricket Development Fund with his 2nd duck of the tournament.

The CBB’s once again set a cracking pace with a total of 1/68 versus the Thailand Rugby League. Ritchie Oliver once again showed his prowess with the bat retiring on 35. Bec Gray was the only bowler to take a wicket on the Thai Rugby League team, with figures of 1/7 in a losing cause as CBBs cantered to a win.

The Lesmurdie Mazenod boys and the Singapore Slingers were next to face the heat with Lesmurdie setting a challenging 52 runs for victory. They also achieved their first duck for the tournament so graciously adding to the coffers for the PJCD fund. Unfortunately for them it was not to be the plucky Slingers game as their final score fell well short of the mark with a total of 34.

Next up, NCL came out shooting with a breezy score of 0/58. Akram with 19 runs and and Faruque with 23 led the charge, both not out. The Mighty Spires from the UK answered with 4/46, not enough to take the victory. Athar and Jenel from the NCL team both ended with bowling figures of 2 wickets for 3 runs.

Game 5 of the day saw the Rowdies take on the Chennai Super Sevens. Batting first, the Rowdies set a modest total of 5/23. Ram & Vonky of Chennai both posted impressive bowling figures of 1 wicket for 2 runs from their overs. The Chennai boys cruised to victory, reaching their target with 2 full overs to spare, earning themselves a bonus point in the process.

In the next match up, the Mighty Spires posted a competitive total of 49 against the Singapore Slingers, with Jonathon top scoring on 13, closely followed by David on 12 not out. Once again the sundries were the top scorers of the game with both teams posting 13 and 14 extras. The Slingers gave it their all, but unfortunately couldn’t reach their target. They ended their run chase with a valiant 41 with T2 once again top scoring with 11.

In the last Shield division game of the day the Thai Rugby League took on the Vagabonds. Thai Rugby League made a solid 41 from their allotted overs. In response the Vagabonds took the win after scoring 0/ 45, earning them the victory.

The battle continued to reach the top 8 positions for Cup & Plate honours with the NCL coming out to face the Lesmurdie Mazenod team. The game featured the least amount of sundries for the entire day of play, Lesmurdie having 3 and NCL 0. The game was won comfortably by NCL with a score of 1/48 against which the Lesmurdie lads could only muster 11 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

In the final completed match of the day, the local Thai boys of the PCDC Natives scored a modest total of 13 runs. This was knocked off by the Chennai lads with three and a half overs to spare. Whilst it was a short game, it was played with the positive spirit for which these Phuket cricket tournaments have become known. The PCDC lads still walked from the pitch with a smile on their faces and a spring in their step.

Unfortunately, due to rain, play was stopped during the match between the Da Bang Boyz and PCDC Natives. Both this game and the final scheduled match of the day between the Da Bang Boyz and the Rowdies will be played tomorrow morning.

On Finals Day of the Kata 7s the top 8 placed teams will compete in Cup and Plate divisions, they are: The Rowdies, P.C.D.C Natives, Singapore Slingers, NCL, Dabang Boyz, The Mighty Spires, Lesmurdie Mazenod and Chennai Super Sevens

The four bottom placed teams: The Galahs, CBB SCs, Thailand Rugby League and The Vagabonds start the days play in the Shield Division.
