End of the Internship

I am almost at the end of my internship (I finish tomorrow) and am still in disbelief at how quickly it passed by. I have had so much fun working at 91.5FM and learning all that I can about what does on daily at a radio station and getting to go live on-air on multiple occasions. I will have finished having so much more knowledge and experience than I did when I started and I can’t thank 91.5FM enough for having me on board. I have been allowed to do some special features on the Afternoon Show which has surprised me as since I am an intern and not a professional DJ or radio presenter, the chances of me making mistakes are high! I love doing them though so I am happy that I have been given the chance to do them.

Yesterday I did a feature on the Afternoon Show with DJ Doris from 2.30pm-3pm. We did a feature which featured the on-going Phuket Seafood Fiesta Festival, the health benefits of Thai food and the upcoming Vegetarian Festival which takes place at the end of September. This was my first project where I had to come up with some fresh idea’s and create a radio feature from these idea’s. It was a challenge as I wanted to talk about something interesting and relevant to Phuket without sounding boring or unenthusiastic. Tomorrow I am going to be doing another, slightly longer feature on the Afternoon Show to mark the end of my internship. I won’t say what we will be talking about as that would spoil the surprise, so be sure to tune in!

So that’s it from me on the Listen to Phuket blog. Once again I thank 91.5FM for having me on board, and I hope you have all enjoyed my blog posts!

The Technical Side of Things

Hello there everyone, this is Alice Williams. If you don’t remember who I am then here is a quick recap: I am interning at 91.5FM for three weeks and am doing the weather every morning on 91.5FM at 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm, making me the Weather Girl!

I have been settling in and getting into my routine of doing the weather in the mornings and other tasks in the afternoons, one of them being updating this blog and www.todayinphuket.com. I really enjoy doing the weather and being able to have air time which gives me the chance to practice feeling comfortable on air and is just great experience in general. I got to sit in on the Afternoon Show with the Doris the other day and have a chit chat. This was a nice change from just announcing the weather as it was more interactive. I feel like I am getting better at announcing the weather especially now that I am getting more used to handling all the equipment in the studio. I feel as if I need to change things up during my weather forecasts though. I don’t always want to be saying the same things and boring people, so I need to shake it up a bit just by saying different things in my intro and outro. I just need to change what I say a little every now and again so I do not get stuck in a rut of saying the same things over and over again. I also need to stop saying ‘umm’ when I am on air!!

All in all, I am having a great time at 91.5FM. Make sure to tune in to the various shows 91.5fm offers at www.phuketfmradio.com 🙂

The Weather Girl

A big hello to you all! My name is Alice Williams and for the next three weeks I will be interning at 91.5FM. I will be the Weather Girl and announcing the weather forecast on the Breakfast Show and the Afternoon Show as well as doing a variety of jobs in the studio to learn as much as I can about what goes on in a radio station.

So far my first week has been fantastic. Everyone at the station is lovely and helpful, answering all of my very beginner questions! I have learnt a lot about what the DJ’s have to do to prepare a show and what actually happens during a show. I had my first live debut as the Weather Girl on the Afternoon Show yesterday, and needless to say, I couldn’t help being nervous even though it all went fine. I am looking forward to announcing the weather for the next two weeks I am here and hopefully improving on how I deliver the forecasts over the coming weeks.

Make sure to tune into 91.5FM and listen to my weather updates on the Breakfast and Afternoon Show at 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30am. A special thanks to Simpson Marine for sponsoring these weather forecasts.
